Sweet Bread with Cardamom
Ingredients:
- All purpose flour – 6 cups
- Milk – 2 cups & 1 tablespoon
- Eggs – 3
- Butter – 8 tablespoons
- Raisins – ½ cup
- Brown sugar – 2 tablespoons
- Dry yeast – 1 tablespoon
- Vanilla – 1 tablespoon
- Salt – 1 ¼ teaspoon
- Cardamom – ½ tablespoon
- Nutmeg – ½ tablespoon
Instructions:
- Prepare Yeast Mixture: Mix warm milk, dry yeast, and brown sugar. Let it sit for 15 minutes.
- Make Dough: In a bowl, combine yeast mixture, 1 teaspoon of salt, vanilla, flour, cardamom, nutmeg, butter, eggs, and raisins. Knead at low speed for 8 minutes.
- First Rise: Place dough in a bag and refrigerate for 50 minutes until it doubles in size.
- Shape: Divide dough into 4 parts, then cut each into 4 pieces. Stretch into ropes and braid.
- Egg Wash: Mix egg, milk, and salt (¼ teaspoon). Apply to dough.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 380°F and bake for 30 minutes.
